Greetings from Berlin!
I’m finally in Berlin after years of longing to visit. Next to Tel Aviv, I’ve always seen this city as the most vegan-friendly in the world. My dream has been to fly out with the sole intention of eating, and that dream came true this week.
Below is a list of everywhere I went on day one and a brief review of the experience.
Brammibal’s Donuts
When I polled my Instagram audience to get a take on their favorite vegan restaurants, this was the most suggested. Brammibal’s is a fully vegan doughnut chain with a wide selection of options. My favorite was the red velvet. It didn’t necessarily taste like red velvet (more of a strawberry flavor), but it was delicious.
The doughnuts are quite big and very fried. I encourage you to go with a friend or two so you can have a few bites of a few flavors. Even with the biggest sweet tooth you’d have a hard time finishing two by yourself.
Soy
Soy wasn’t originally on my list but we went in a pinch since it was close to my hotel.
We asked the server to surprise us with four of his favorite appetizers and he did not disappoint. Since we left it up to him I don’t know what we ordered but the standout was this large platter of tofu, Thai basil (I think), and this dark sauce laid on top of a very thin pancake. In the photo above, it’s the dish at the very top.
The food was filling and flavorful, the service was super fast, and the outdoor space was lovely. I’d definitely go back!
Secret Garden Sushi
Another highly recommended vegan sushi restaurant but this was probably my least favorite restaurant of the three. I will say I was quite full by the time we got there, but there was also nothing we ate that I’d like to have again.
I do think it’s worth a visit since it’s in a super vegan building. It sits on top of a vegan grocery story and there’s a vegan shoe store right next door.
More of my Berlin favorites to come!
