There are lots of vegan burgers on the market with not-so-great ingredients. Impossible and Beyond are delicious and taste very much like the real thing, but it takes a bit of sorcery (and a whole lot of oil) to make that happen.
If you’re trying to clean up your diet, here are three cleaner vegan burgers to give a try plus a recipe to make a really good veggie burger at home.
Akua: these burgers are kelp-based with lots of whole ingredients. It sounds like it would taste a bit fishy but it doesn’t. I promise.
Dr. Praeger’s: These are my go-to for a cleaner veggie burger. It uses whole vegetables that you can see and has less oil than a traditional plant-based patty. They come in a variety of flavors but the California is my favorite.
Hillary’s: I like the texture of the Hillary’s burgers the best and I think they do some unique flavor options. Definitely a great pick!
Recipe: Black Bean Burger
The recipe linked below is not vegan but the author included the swaps to make it so. I’ve tried this one a few times and thought it never turns out pretty it always turns out delicious.
